Days are getting shorter, temperatures are dropping and apples are ready for picking.

Apple Charlie’s Orchard and Cider Mill, a U-Pick orchard, is one of the closest orchard and mills to campus at about 30 minutes away by car.

"Apple Charlie’s has been in business for over 60 years with the Glover’s family offering freshly raised apples, apple cider and home-grown pumpkins,” the former owner Mary Glover said. “There is no admission price for the orchard and parking is free.”

The orchard, which is located at 38035 S Huron Rd. in New Boston, Michigan includes a dozen types of apples sprouted on dwarf trees for easy picking and a host of other activities.

“Apple Charlie’s features pony-rides, hayrides and on weekends they offer free entertainment, such as bands that like to play in their pavilion, along with food, their finest apples and pumpkins, and cider around,” Glover said.

Riding the hayrides, through Apple Charlie’s Orchard brings families, or college students, photo-friendly spots.

They also have animals, including two alpacas and two goats you can feed but not touch. Apple Charlie’s features vendors as well, such as woodworking, candle-making and an embroiderer.

For the month of October, Apple Charlie’s will also have a bounce house on site for families and their kids.

The cider mill offers a glance at how crisp apple juice is squeezed, and you can crunch on a doughnut while you roam through the farm animal area and the pumpkin patch, too.

Apple Charlie's have been making their own unpasteurized apple juice, apple pies and apple cinnamon bread for more than 50 years. With the bakery, the animal farm, the hayrides and the handicapped accessible offices, the managers take pride in the state of this 65-year-old fall institution.

Apple Charlie’s is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in September, October and November, and closed from Jan. 1-July 31.

For more information, contact Apple Charlie’s at 734-753-9380 or visit their Facebook page.
