Catherine Kay is the newly-named director of the financial aid department at Wayne State University. Kay said she aims to improve services so students are able to take full advantage of educational opportunities.

“Our mission is to provide access to financial resources in a fair, sensitive and confidential manner; to inform and educate students and their families about their financial options,” she said. I want to ensure that the cost to attend WSU is not a barrier and that we can help students work through the process.”

It’s no secret, many students are aware of how expensive college, living on or off campus. According to the International Business Times, 70 percent of U.S. college students are worried about their finances and 60 percent of them expressed that they were stressed out about not having enough money to pay for school. Researchers also found that over 30 percent of students put their studies on the back burner because of debt.

Kay had been the Interim Director in the the office, and knew that the search was going on. However, prior to that, she was an Associate Director. Kay has over 30 years of progressive experience in the field of financial aid.

“The university hired Bill Neumann Associates, a search consulting firm. I applied for the position through them,” she said. “I’ve been with WSU for my entire career, and served in many capacities within the financial office.”

As Director, Kay’s responsible for overseeing the delivery of financial aid and scholarships, which consists of private, state, institutional and federal programs.

“I oversee the delivery of aid and scholarships which consist of institutional, state, private, and federal programs totaling over $350 million annually to prospective and returning students in the Undergraduate, Graduate, School of Medicine and Law School programs,” Kay said. “I along, with my strong team, ensure that we maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations. I also serve as a key advisor and member of the senior enrollment management leadership team. Also part of my role is to develop, train, and oversee staff development.”

Kay said she accepted the position because she believed she could bring improvements to the financial aid department.

“The office experienced a few transitions in its leadership within the past year. In part due to this instability, I felt that I could bring stability, strength, and be part of the solution to bring a customer service focus back to the office,” she said. “It’s important to note that my decision to accept the position was also driven by the positive support that our office has received from Provost Whitfield and Dawn Medley, our new AVP over Enrollment Management. We have the backing and encouragement of our leadership to boost the team and strengthen our office so that we can provide the support that our students need.”

Going forward, Kay has an office full of staff members who support her and what she brings to the table as a leader of the department.

“Cathy Kay is the leader of the financial aid office. She sets the tone for service, accessibility and information regarding all institutional aid,” Associate Vice President of Management, Dawn Medley said. “Her level of knowledge and experience is invaluable in defining our aid focus and advocating for students.”

    我認為她將會做新導演的出色工作 https://essaypinglun.wordpress.com。 她擁有所有她需要成功的天賦,我希望她能成功。 如果她做對了,肯定會贏得老闆的讚許。
