Update: On March 3, the Boil Water Advisory was lifted.

After losing pressure in the water supply, the city of Detroit issued a precautionary Boil Water Advisory, which affects Wayne State and the surrounding midtown area.

According to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, the Great Lakes Water Authority's Water Works Park Water Treatment Facility had an equipment malfunction on Feb. 28. This malfunction caused low water pressure in the facility's surrounding area.

"Whenever a water system loses pressure for any significant length of time, precautionary measures are recommended," the department's website said.

DWSD advised residents not to drink the water without boiling it first, or switching to bottled water.

In an email to students, Michael Wright, the president's chief of staff, said dining services will continue in the Towers Cafe and Gold 'n' Greens.

"While bottled water is available in select places for residents, it is suggested to bring water to campus, if you are able," he said.

GLWA expects that pressure levels will go back to normal in 24 hours. The advisory will remain in effect until sampling results verify that the water is safe to drink.
