Wayne State Athletic Director Rob Fournier has retired effective immediately according to an email sent to university employees Wednesday.

The announcement comes after Fournier was placed on administrative leave for unknown reasons on Nov. 1.

Fournier has served as WSU’s Atheltic Director since 2000 and played a role in the department’s new $28.5 million basketball arena in partnership with the Detroit Pistons and the installation of a new infield at Harwell field.

An interim director will be announced soon, said President M. Roy Wilson in the email.

The South End will continue reporting on this ongoing story.
