UPDATE: The student in question is now being medically evaluated at a hospital facility and has not been charged with any crime, WSUPD Lt. David Scott said.
Wayne State’s annual Student Organization Day ended with the detainment of a business student on Sept. 12.
Student witnesses say they saw a student repeatedly throw a folding chair at the glass wall of the Mort Harris Recreation Center.
“We just heard a huge crash then we turn around and see the guy pick up the folding chair and throw it at the window and when it dropped he picked it up again and threw it at the window,” said Jackie Falbo, a junior psychology student.
Two students, both members of Alpha Kappa Psi, intervened and attempted to counsel the detained student, witnesses say.
“He was just upset, he was in an emotional state, couldn’t control it,” said Matt George, a junior accounting-finance student and one of the students who intervened. “I’ve only known him in a professional setting and he’s always been very kind and considerate; I’ve never known him to be angry I think he was dealing with something.”
WSU police officers on the scene refused to comment.
